EPONGE is a hand-held shower head that invites to save water in a comfortable and playful manner. Analogous to the sponge principle of water delivery on pressure, EPONGE changes the water flow by lightly and strongly pressing a pressure-sensitive handle. The on-demand water release accommodates the phases of showering and their varying water consumption. The flow is changed with a lever and spring mechanism that resembles the principle of a cord stopper. Rather than a moralizing restriction, EPONGE sees sustainability as the starting point for a functional design that motivates a resource-conserving lifestyle.
